First steps in right direction

The Ukrainian Catholic Newspaper “Tserkva і Zhyttia” of September 17, 1972, has published a lengthy report on a Soborchyk (an official meeting of the Ukrainian Catholic clergy of Australia, under the leadership of His Excellency Bishop Ivan Prashko). The Soborchyk passed 23 resolutions. The most important resolutions express the devotion of the gathered clergy to His Holiness Pope Paul VI, Major Archbishop and Head of the Autonomous Ukrainian Catholic Church Cardinal Joseph Slipyj and His Permanent Synod of Bishops. The Soborchyk also expressed its love to Bishop Basil Velychkovsky, the Bishop of luck, the Ukrainian people in Ukraine and in the diaspora, the Ukrainian Catholic faithful, and our Orthodox brethren. The resolutions emphasized the need for cooperation between hierarchy, clergy and the faithful in working for a patriarchal structure of our Church arc the good of the Ukrainian people. Une of the truly important resolutions of the Soborchyk was the unanimous approval to admit representatives of laymen to the next meeting. The role of the laymen in contemporary life of our church was described as a most important one.
